the joy of an Office Space

Office space

my office

So, that’s my new office. Sure, it may look like a library… well, ok, it is. But my new co-conspirators have been kind enough to carve out an office space for me, and this is where it is going to happen. They’re even going to move the books out (although there’s some great ones in there that make me nostalgic about my college’s library).  This may not sound like a big deal, but let me share the list of my previous office spaces (which I think is fairly typical for church planting staff):

1. My apartment’s second bedroom (convenient but distractions abound)

2. The Pastor’s garage (not too bad, except in the peak of summer and winter)

3. A crumbling house that constantly smelled like sewage

4. A basement that occasionally flooded and reeked of mold (but thankfully, not sewage)

So this is without a doubt the nicest office space I’ve worked in during my career in ministry. I’m blessed! I’m sure I haven’t seen the last of crazy workspaces in my life, but for now I’m relishing not having to type emails with my coat on or apologize for unpleasant smells (well, not usually).

Of course, being a church library, the space has collected some nice retro (or at least “modern classic”) items over the years, including a section on the Y2K crisis, a copy of the 1986 film Space Camp on glorious VHS, and (pictured below) Carman’s 1993 “Revival in the Land” album which, I kid you not, had a major effect on my spiritual life. But that’s a story for another post.
