Very excited that Patti and I are headed to the National New Church Conference in Orlando next week. We’re in the “Nuts and Bolts” track, so if you run into us, be sure to say “hi.” Looking forward to absorbing lots of fresh ideas… and leaving this long Midwest winter for a bit.

Yep, the ultrasound revealed we’re having a girl. I’m so excited! All anxiety turned to joy when I really saw the baby was in there, happy (well, I assume) and healthy! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she will have a Godly mom to look up to who holds a degree in childhood development. I can’t wait till August!

Yep, in case you haven’t heard yet, the news is that Patti and I are having a baby. We just finished the first trimester, so its time to let it slip! To those who knew, thanks for keeping our secret, we appreciate it.
We had our first Dr.’s appointment on Wednesday, and heard the heartbeat. Our due date right now is August 8th… so that’s 8/8/08! How cool is that? If all goes well, we’ll have a new Richardson in the mix in about six months– part of me is terrified, all of me is excited. What will it be like? Who will it grow into? Can Patti’s incredible gift for teaching children counteract my own parenting skills (or lack thereof)? So many questions! One question will not be gender, though— we’ll find out as soon as we can and let you know. We’ve got some good girl names tucked away… if you have any good boy name ideas, leave a comment and let us know!
The other good news I hinted at last week, of course, is that I’ve been hired on officially as the arts director for Suncrest East, which is launching this fall in the Hobart/Merrillville area. We’re looking forward to all the good things the fall will bring— a new baby and a new campus!

After spending the week with a congested brain, now that the cold/fever/plague I had (and Patti still has) is starting to break, I can’t help but let some thoughts spill out:
1. Yeah, my attempt to use my blog for journaling was another epic fail. Look for me to contribute to the 21 day challenge blog, though, alongside other Suncrest staff.
2. I’m trying to grow a beard, after watching the movie Once and admiring the glorious beard worn by the main character, an Irish busker (if I wasn’t an American worship leader, I’d be an Irish busker, I think). Problem is, I don’t know if I can pull it off. To those around me who are currently experiencing my budding beard in its various states of horribleness… sorry!
3. I’m also growing out my hair, apparently, after being (intentionally) bald for over a decade. Will it last? Should it last?
4. LOST (yes, I’m mentioning the show again) is known for alluding to major philosophers and scientists through its character names… John Locke, Desmond Hume, etc. One of the recent ones? Charlotte Staples Lewis, referring to Clive Staples Lewis…. CS Lewis. Couldn’t get more obvious, or more awesome.
5. In possibly-cooler-than-Lost news, I watched the trailer for the fourth Indiana Jones movie this morning, which looks to contain a car chase… in the warehouse where they stuck the Ark of the Covenant? Incredible. Proof that people (especially Harrison Ford) get cooler with age.
6. Excellent, upbeat worship songs… do they exist? So easy to find mellow ones, but good songwriting and upbeat tempos seem to be a major challenge for us today… as do well-written songs that challenge us, as the Bible does, to care for the “orphan and widow,” and be socially conscious. The songs are out there, just not necessarily ones that work well in a corporate setting. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know, I’m on the hunt. And no, the “Happy Song” does not count as a well written song. Or a song.
7. I’ve got two very, very big announcements to make, sometime next week. But you’ll hear one of them if you’re at Suncrest this weekend (and dare I say, awesome as it is, it is actually the smaller of the two?)! Keep an eye on this space for more.
