Essential Resource July 07: Article
July 9, 2007

We all have resources that have helped us immensely in our ministries. Our monthy “essential resource” spotlight is a chance to highlight one book, article, CD, song, DVD, etc., that has risen to the top as a proven useful resource. Whether you’re familiar with it or just hearing about it for the first time, the following resource comes with Worship Rising’s highest recommendation.
July 2007 Essential Resource:
“Living Creatively in the Image of God” by Dan Wilt
This article was published in Vineyard’s Inside Worship magazine during the summer of 2003 (issue 50, fyi). Dan Wilt, the author… well, his own blog can fill you in on everything he’s up to, but he is involved in emergent worship in a major way. He is a songwriter, author and trainer, as well as the Director of the Institute Of Contemporary & Emerging Worship Studies, among other contributions to emerging worship. There’s a good chance you’ve come across one of his resources in your ministry. If not, this is a great place to start.
So, why is Living Creatively in the Image of God an essential resource? Because in just three quick pages, Wilt meditates on the intimate connection between our creativity and God’s, and the purpose of our creativity within the worshipping community. In fact, it is such a fine introduction to these ideas (it certainly introduced me to them), I’ve made it suggested reading for every worship volunteer I’ve worked with since.
The best thing about this month’s (inaugural) essential resource is that it is available freely online. Check it out at Inside Worship (with a variety of other excellent articles) or in full .pdf glory at the Vineyard Churches Canada site.
